Description

The Thompson M1/M1A1 is a World War II-era U.S. Army submachine gun that uses the same .45 caliber ammunition as the Government Pistol developed by former U.S. Army General John Thompson. Witnessing the fierce trench warfare of World War I, he decided that he needed a single-handed machine gun that was capable of firing barrages at close range. The M1/M1A1 type was the most manufactured in the series, and is characterized by a structure that is easy to mass-produce. Adopted by the military in 1942, it was equipped to non-commissioned officers, tank crews, paratroopers and scouts.

Tomytec's newest "Little Armory" series is "Study 1942," which reproduces various firearms that were developed before the Second World War, featuring many which became the foundation of modern firearms. The Thompson M1/M1A1, which can be seen in various movies and TV shows, is precisely made into a 1/12-scale model kit, with the wood and metal part reproduced by two molding colors. This weapon is different from the M1928; the M1 type press-processed receiver and simple sight are carefully reproduced. The bolt open/closed state can be reproduced by choosing the receiver, and the magazine can be either the 20-round or 30-round version.
